Dennis "Denny" James Heuer, age 73, of Dodgeville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, Tuesday, October 17, 2023. Denny was born on January 17, 1950 in Highland to Ernest and Mary (Shemak) Heuer.

He met the love of his life, Theresa Grimm in 1968 and the couple was married on July 3, 1969. They had three daughters and made their life together in Dodgeville.

Denny grew up in Highland, was raised on the family farm with 4 siblings and learned a strong work-ethic as was common then. Growing up he was a hard worker, wrestler, horse rider, mischief maker, and creative problem-solver. No sled in the winter? Use an old car-hood.

Denny had great love for his family and friends and would often hand out nicknames. Just ask Tush, Cheeks, Smokey, Oscar, Gert, Truly, Virgil, Squirgel, Henry, Motor Mouth, or Spanky and the gang.

He passed along his values, work-ethic, and determination (some would call this stubbornness) to his children and grandchildren, teaching them about archery, hunting, fishing, gun safety and skills.

He enjoyed visits from friends, and like his father, it was important to him to have your favorite drink on-hand when you visited.

Fearless and strong willed, he was an avid outdoorsman, runner, hunter and accomplished archer. Denny also had a wide variety of handyman skills. He could remodel a house, fix nearly any lawn mower or bicycle, and was more than proficient with a chainsaw. He worked for the City of Dodgeville for a time before going on to drive a delivery truck for General Beverage until 1990.

Before his accident, he took dance lessons with his wife Theresa so they could go out dancing together. He then taught his daughters the polka, waltz and foxtrot. On Sunday afternoons, radio oldies or the record player often inspired spirited singing, dancing and joking.

He was a kind, loving man that exceeded and defied expectations both before and after his accident in 1990.

Denny was preceded in death by his parents, Skip and Mary and brother Pat.

Denny is survived by his wife of 54 years, Theresa (Grimm) Heuer of Dodgeville; his sisters Avis (Richard) Davis of Madison and Susan Backman of Janesville, and brother Michael (Betty) Heuer of Martinsburg, MO; his three children , Anita (Josh) Lindemann of Ridgeway, Andrea (Greg) Heuer of Middleton and Lisa Heuer of Dodgeville; several grandchildren, Kelly Heuer, Heuer Stutz, Keagan Stutz, Mason Brown, and Audrey Knutson; and many nephews and nieces.

A Visitation was held from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville, where at 1:00 p.m. Stories and Remembrances were shared.

After the service, a Celebration of Dennis’ Life was held at the RED ROOM in Dodgeville.

The family would like to give extra special thanks to all the nurses and healthcare workers that came into his home and our lives. Denny appreciated you and considered you part of our family.
