Pointers to host Lancaster tonight in D3 round 2

Mineral Point volleyball coach Kari Kabat knows the tank has more fuel in it and she will be urging the Pointers to prove it.

The Pointers received a surprising challenge from Iowa-Grant Tuesday in the first round of WIAA Division 3 Regionals.   The Pointers came into the match as the #1 seed while the Panthers were seeded 16th.

But the seeding were tossed out the window early as the Panthers put up a good fight in a battle of SWAL rivals.  The Panthers stayed close in three of the four sets and took a win over the Pointers 25-21 in the second set of the match.

Scores were 25-17, 21-25, 25-12, 25-17.

Kabat will be working on the mental part of the game as the Pointers host Lancaster Thursday.  The Flying Arrows who play in the SWC, swept Parkview in their opener.

“We need to go back to the drawing board and get focused at practice for the rest of this tournament,” the coach said.  “We did not play up to our program standards tonight.  We had too many communication errors and our serve receive and passing was subpar.”

“All I can say is, we have some work to do to earn our #1 seed.,” Kabat added.  “I believe our girls will turn it around, but just hope they can in time.  We have been playing to our competition level the past couple matches and need to figure out how to turn it on, no matter who our opponent is.  Just taking it one match at a time from here on out.”
