Cardinals host Braves tonight in D4 semis

There just might be a score to settle tonight when Belmont comes to Highland for a WIAA Division 4 Regional semi-final match.

The Lady Braves became the only Six Rivers West team to beat the Cardinals this season and that happened a little over a week ago, right after the Cardinals claimed the Six Rivers East title.  Highland was without their Libero, Lilly Michek, who was forced out of action with a health issue. She is back now and the Cardinals have not stumbled since.

Belmont had to survive a battle with River Ridge to advance to the semi-final round.  It took all five sets before that one was decided.

The Cardinals had a much easier time with Juda, putting away the Ponies 25-4, 25-5, 25-8.

The Cardinals served 19 aces and returned everything else in demolishing the Six Rivers West challenger. Sumaryn Halverson dropped down nine aces to lead.  Michek added five aces, Bronwyn Halverson three and Anna Hennessey two.

Highland coach Maria Wineski was able to get everyone playing time and a taste of tournament action.

“Everyone played and everyone contributed,” Wineski said.

Now the attention turns to their rival, the Lady Braves.

“It will be a match-up of conference teams,” Wineski said.  “It is a match we need to have no stumbles and be ready to go.”
