Homer W. U’Ren, age 100, of Mineral Point, passed away peacefully at Upland Hills Nursing and Rehab Center surrounded by his daughter and son and several other family members on Friday, November 17, 2023.
He was born on April 24, 1923 at home (hence the name Homer) in Waldwick, WI, the oldest son of Willie and Myrtle (Harris) U’Ren. He graduated from Hollandale High School. On October 30, 1944, he married Elizabeth “Betty” Casey. They farmed while their three children were growing up. He then worked for Helgeson Harvestor and Ed and Phil Cody before retiring.
He and Betty moved to his current home in 1972 and lived there until 3 weeks ago when he went to the hospital with back pain. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in 1999 before Betty passed away in 2000.
Homer was a member of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Catholic Church. His greatest hobby was caring for his lawn, which he faithfully mowed weekly, up until he was in his mid to late 90’s.
Homer is survived by his son Michael (Nancy) U’Ren of Fitchburg; his daughter Patricia (Bob) Coogan of Mineral Point; his daughter-in-law Elaine U’Ren; eight grandchildren Mary (Joe) Christianson, Lauri U’Ren (Terry Lauffer), Jason (Tara) U’Ren, Kelly U’Ren, Chad (Jolene) U’Ren, Brian (Justin) U’Ren, Tammy (John) Coogan and Jamie Coogan; 15 great grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his son Richard, his parents, his siblings Robert, Merle, Alice, Marian and Gwendolyn, his grandson Corry, his great granddaughter Elizabeth and great grandson Hunter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Ss. MARY & PAUL CATHOLIC CHURCH in Mineral Point. Fr. Alex Carmel will officiate. Burial will be held in St. Paul's Cemetery. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9:00 until 10:50 a.m. at the church.
