Knights tip Eagles in extra period

Hannah Esch spent 35 minutes and 56 seconds without scoring Tuesday in a classic non-conference game between her Barneveld Golden Eagles and the New Glarus Knights.

But with four seconds left on the clock she found herself with the basketball and the Eagles trailing 46-43 with the only choice left to shoot.  And shoot she did. The shot from beyond the arc drew nothing but net and the game went to overtime.

Esch then duplicated the feat to start the extra period and finished the night with six points.

Izzy Durst, who led the Eagles with 20 points also scored a basket in the OT and Erin Lease made one of two free throws.

But the 52 points the Eagles had on the board were two points short as the Glarner Knights pulled out a 54-52 win.  Lindsey Schedewalt netted 26 points to lead the Knights and her five points in the extra period were huge.  Also big was the three that  Elle Lancaster made that tied it after the second bomb from Esch.

Lancaster finished with 15 for the Knights with four three pointers.

New Glarus led 26-25 at halftime and the game was knotted at 46 at the end of regulation.

Besides the 20 from the sophomore Durst the Eagles also got 10 pints off the bench from Tatum Thousand.
