Along The Ad Routes

by Mike Reilly

Saturday morning breakfast took us to one to one of our furthest destinations when we went to “Old 61 Diner” in Boscobel. We have to leave at 7:15 to get there by 8:00, our usual meeting time. Dave Stone returned from his golf trip to Augusta, GA and Myrtle Beach, SC and he picked Dewey up in Spring Green and the two of them headed west. Tom drove Bob, Terry and me from the southeast. We arrived after Dave and Dewey as it doesn’t take long for Dave to get from place to place! Actually it doesn’t take Tom long either! Lacie, the owner, was happy to see us (I can’t believe that) and Haley waited on us just like she did when we were there last - May 13. I guess we get there about every six months! Bob, Terry and I each had an omelette - very good! Dewey and Dave both had very good helping of oatmeal. Dave even added a huge cinnamon roll! Lacie came out of the kitchen where she is very efficient and even had time to take away our dishes. She came to greet us when we left and I even got a hug from her. We said we would probably see her in May again and she said she hoped so. We just might sneak there before that too - great place, great prices! Dave said he really liked it there!

Another committee is also planning for next year’s “Wisconsin Grilled Cheese Championships” that will be held at Harris Park on Saturday, April 20, 2024. It is usually a week later, but another event was already booked for that day! You can sign up to compete on the website anytime!

I had quite the surprize when I got to see both Mary (Flora) Pfeiffer and her sister Jane Flora last week. Mary was at her 1963 class reunion on Saturday and Jane was in town the first part of the week for a doctor’s appointment and stopped in. I go way back through high school with both of them!

I had a chance to go to the Dodgeville High School’s rendition of “The Wizard of OZ” opening night (Thursday). The cast had a lot of fun doing that production and did a very good job. They entertained a lot of people at the DHS Auditorium Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday!

It was good to see so many area schools honor veterans the day before Veterans Day (Friday). That happened because there is no school on this year’s actual Veterans Day (Saturday, November 11).

For my “Special day” of this week I’m going to backtrack to yesterday (Wednesday) when it was “National Clean Out your Refrigerator Day”. That is something I really should do. When \you have some things in it that may date back to before 2000, then it could be time! National Clean Out Your Refrigerator Day on November 15th encourages us to prepare for the upcoming holidays. Get together a soap and hot water-filled bucket, disinfectant, a sponge, and a garbage bag. Then you will be ready for the day!
