Wyoming Valley man sentenced in shooting incident


The Wyoming Valley man who said he accidentially shot his girlfriend January 25 was sentenced to eight years in prison as part of a plea deal October 25.

Timothy D. Sontic, 34, admitted he was holding the gun when it discharged accidentally and hit his girlfriend, Nicole Bliesner, 35, also of Wyoming Valley.  He called 911 after the shooting.

Bliesner died of the injuries she received five days later.

After the incident Sontic was charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a firearm.

Under the plea agreement Sontic will serve eight years in prison and 10 years extended supervision.  He will also pay restitution in the amount of $5,194.16.

Sontic will also receive credit of 273 time served.

The plea agreement was reached July 10 and was set for sentencing October 25.
