It was a busy Saturday for everybody, so breakfast kept us close to home going to the Pointer Cafe in Mineral Point. Dewey had to be at Orchard Lawn at 10:00 for the Mineral Point Kiwanis Halloween Costume Contest. I had to be back to Dodgeville to set up for the Trunk or Treat in the Courthouse Parking Lot and Terry had to help me. Tom had to be in Darlington for a wake for a friend he worked with. That left Bob as the only one who didn’t have a real agenda for the morning. Breakfast is always good at the Pointer, but we had been there about two months ago. Actually Bob and I were there last Sunday.

Bob, Terry and I swung by Harris Park to check out the sidewalk that was put down around the Lions shed just recently.

The Trunk or Treat went really well with some 20+ businesses/organizations taking part. There was music and performances from the Mustangs Cheerleaders plus a lot of candy handed out. It was a little chilly with temperatures in the low 40s and we did see a few snowflakes fall. I had some 300 full-sized candy bars to hand out at the Dodgeville Chronicle booth and they were all gone plus a bag or so of smaller candy was gone too. I did have some left for the front counter at the office for Halloween day. It was a good time for everybody, including the youngsters who said “wow” when they saw the big candy bars! Everybody said a big thanks!

Heather Olson and her son Garrison Judd helped me during the three hour event!

The Dodgeville Area Chamber of Commerce is making plans for the annual “Home For the Holidays” events that begin on Small Business Saturday (November 25). There will be a lot more on that in the near future. There will be a FREE movie (non-canned good item preferred for entry, but not mandatory), a Breakfast With Santa, a parade - and more!

Another committee is also planning for next year’s “Wisconsin Grilled Cheese Championships” that will be held at Harris Park on Saturday, April 20, 2024. It is usually a week later, but another event was already booked for that day! You can sign up to compete on the website anytime!

Barneveld’s volleyball team fell one game short of a state tournament appearance with a tough loss to Fall River in the Sectional finals Saturday night. They had a great season!

Mineral Point’s football team lost a heartbreaker to Darlington Friday night 7-0 in Level II of the playoffs. Mount Horeb/Barneveld advanced and will play Notre Dame Friday night!

Today (Thursday, November 2) is National “Men Make Dinner Day”. The rules say no barbecuing allowed - must cook. I guess that’s one day I will not take part in. My cooking is BBQ at the park during baseball season, microwaving, deli food or carry-out from somewhere!
