Neil Millard

Neil Irvin “Gopher” Millard, age 87, of Livingston, WI passed away unexpectedly on Sunday May 28, 2023, at his residence in Livingston. He was born on June 19, 1935, in Mifflin Township Iowa County, WI the son of Irvin and Burdetta (Jones) Millard.

Neil graduated from Livingston High School in 1953 and then attended University of Wisconsin Platteville. He worked various jobs until being drafted in the U.S. Army. He served his country from June of 1958 until being honorable discharged in June of 1960. Neil went to work for John Deere Corporation as an inspector until retiring on December 31, 1990. 

Neil was an active member of the Montfort VFW, the Livingston United Methodist Church, where he served as the church Treasurer, along with being the Secretary and Treasurer for the Livingston-Clifton Fire Board. He was also a member of the Dubuque Masonic Lodge and the Southwest Wisconsin Area Softball “Hall of Fame”, and a past member of the Livingston-Clifton Fire Department. 

Neil enjoyed sports especially youth baseball. He umpired along with keeping book for games. He loved keeping book for Jack Slack’s baseball team. He always enjoyed watching the kids participate in youth sports. He also worked with the area Boy Scouts and Eagle Scouts and looked forward to the Pinewood Derby events and loved putting puzzles together and collecting stamps. Neil was a dedicated man to his work, community commitments, and especially to the children. He will be dearly missed by everyone. 

Neil is survived by his sister Lila Gundlach of Madison, nieces Jennifer (Andy) Larson of Brooklyn, and Amy Gundlach of Madison, and nephew Troy Gundlach of Madison, great nephews Connor Larson and Kevin Gundlach, and his great niece Karah Gundlach. 

Neil was preceded in death by his parents Irvin and Burdetta Millard, and his brother-in-law Ted Gundlach.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday June 2, 2023, at the Livingston United Methodist Church in Livingston, WI with burial to follow in the Rock Church Cemetery, rural Livingston with Military Honors. Visitation will be held from 4-7:00 P.M. on Thursday June 1, 2023, at the Soman-Larson Funeral Home in Montfort and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church on Friday morning.
