After high school, Steve was employed at Carnes Company in Verona, WI, Bowman Dairy in Madison, WI, farmed, and following that he was a truck driver for Watson, Famous Footwear, Fed Ex, and Ursa Logistics transporting mail for the United States Postal Service for 17 years until retiring in February of 2019.
Steve is survived by his children, Denise (Shawn) McCoy of Dodgeville, WI, Donald (Jenna Bocklund) Johnson of Argyle, Daniel Johnson of Darlington, Duane (Jessica Kohl) Johnson of Argyle, and Diane Johnson of Argyle; his grandchildren: Katelyn McCoy, Chandler Johnson, and Phoenix Johnson; one great-granddaughter: Aspen Piefer; one brother: Keith (Kay) Johnson of Hollandale; three sisters: Janice (Ron) Boley of Dodgeville, Jean (Vern) Sauer of Hollandale, and Shirley Johnson of Blanchardville, WI; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister: Barbara (Dean) Hendrickson; one brother: Sheldon Johnson; and a special cousin: Jackie Cavanaugh (Greg) Polite.
A prayer service will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Erickson Funeral Home (508 Main St., Darlington) with Fr. Luke Syse of Holy Rosary Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be held in St. Michael's Cemetery in rural Blanchardville. A visitation will be held Monday, January 23, 2023 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Erickson Funeral Home (508 Main St., Darlington) and on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at the funeral home.
