Pointers fall short of Monona Grove at the JAG
The Mineral Point girls basketball team was treated to a game at JustAGame Fieldhouse in Wisconsin Dells Thursday afternoon.
The Pointers, who were recently placed out of the WBCA's top-10 poll, were in for a tough matchup with Monona Grove, a division two school with enrollment over 1,100.
But the odds wouldn't scare away the Pointers, who came out aggressively, setting the tone for a back-and-forth affair.
And that's what the first half turned out to be, but Monona Grove was able to hold a 28-25 lead at the break.
Taylor Moreau led the Eagles offensively.
Mineral Point had contributions from Laci Lindsey, Katelyn Cox and Belle Watters early on.
The Pointers' offensive woes didn't improve in the second half, as they didn't shoot the ball well from the field.
Mineral Point was outscored 27-17 in the second half and lost by a final score of 55-42.
Moreua led the way for the Eagles with 17 points, including drilling a trio of three-point shots.
Aubrey Smith, a 6' junior, was also in double figures with 11 points.
Cox led Mineral Point with 15 points.
Lindsey went for 11 points.
Watters added seven and Kennedy Kabat and Kennedy Wenger had four points each.
With the non-conference loss, the Pointers lhave ost two of their last three games, putting them at 8-3 overall.
Mineral Point plays at Riverdale this Thursday in SWAL play starting at 7:30 p.m.
