Dodgers find the three pointer to their liking in win

Lily Wiegel was feeling it as her Dodgeville girls basketball team took on River Valley in a SWC game Thursday.
She had four of the first six points of the game then later put on a three point shooting clinic to finish the night with 22 points. Her total included a trio of three pointers..
The three pointer was good to the Dodgers all night as they put in six. The backbreaker came with a flurry of triples over a two minute surge in the second half. The run broke open the game which had the Dodgers ahead 38-33 when it started.
McKenna Reilly kicked off the run with a three then Wiegel got the ball on the next three possessions with each one resulting in a three. When River Valley found the range again there were 11 minutes left in the game and the Dodgers had a comfortable margin at 52-38.
Wiegel was not the only Dodgeville player who shot the lights out. Maggie White found herself open in the lane often enough to add 15 points. Marley Busch was also successful in the lane and on the baseline and scored 14.
Reilly, who spent the night running the offense, slipped in 13 for a fourth player in double figures.
Leading the defense and picking up a bunch of steals was Ava Garthwaite who rounded out the attack with five points.
The Blackhawks hung around most of the game thanks to 6-3 Charlotte Ferstl who put in a massive total of 34 points. She had 16 the first half and 18 the second with a pair of threes to show she can hit from all over the court.
River Valley coach Darrell Parrish felt the decision made by Dodgeville coach Josh Busch to use a press created a problem for the Blackhawks.
"Dodgeville pressed to start the game and ran out to a 15 point lead at halftime 35-20," said Parrish. "We rallied in the second half to get within seven points with five minutes to play."
But that was as close as the Hawks could get.
