The shooting in Wyoming Valley last week brings the issue of gun control closer to home, especially when just about every day there is a gun incident that results in many needless deaths.
No doubt with that incident as well as others comes the debate about the need for gun control.
But is that the answer?
If only it could be.....
Former and the late President Ronald Reagan had this to say about guns and those that use them for the wrong reason:
"You won't get gun control by disarming law-abiding citizens. There's only one way to get real gun control: Disarm the thugs and the criminals, lock them up and if you don't actually throw away the key, at least lose it for a long time... it's a nasty truth, but those who seek to inflict harm are not fazed by gun controllers. I happen to know this from personal experience."
The problem is finding a way ot do what Reagan suggests.
Hopefully getting guns out of the hands of criminals will be a priority with our lawmakers.
But achieving what is hoped as the end result is still in the distant future.
Let's keep trying though.
