Pointers keep Cubans away from scoring big

Playing Cuba City is not a given so the top ranked Mineral Point Pointers knew thay had to bring their A game.

It might have been their A-plus game as they shut down the Cubans with a strong defensive effort. They also had six players score with two in double figures.

Landon Thousand had 11 points the first half and Eli Lindsey nine as the Pointers rolled to a 34-21 lead. Jaxon Wendhausen also poured in a pair of threes in the opening frame.

Lindsey added nine more the second half and led the Pointers with 18 points. Thousand finished with 13.

Henry Kruser totaled 17 for the Cubans.

“We didn’t shoot the ball as well tonight as we have at other times this year, but I thought we were pretty good defensively,” said  Burreson.  “They are a really good three point shooting team and we limited them to one three pointer.”

Burreson was pleased with some individuals who stepped up.

“We had strong efforts by Eli Lindsey and Landon Thousand who both had double doubles,” said Burreson. “Eli had 18 points and 13 rebounds. Landon had 13 points and 10 assists. Great job tonight by Jake Phillips who pulled in 10 first half rebounds. Good job off the bench from Luke Filardo and Drew Aschliman.  Overall it was a good team effort.”
