Belleville pressures way to win over Dodgers

Visiting Belleville used speed and quickness to get past Dodgeville 58-46 in a non-conference game Thursday.

The Dodgers got off to a good start with a 7-2 lead four minutes into the game and held it until Brady Mousseu put in a rebound to tie the game at 12. The Wildcats went on a run with 7-0 run and led 19-12 with 4:48 left in the half.

The Dodgers faced Belleville’s full court pressure all night and  matched the Wildcats the rest of the way and were only trailing by six at intermission, 25-19.

The Dodgers made a run of their own the second half and cut a 20 point lead to 10. John McGraw started it with a pair of free throws, Noah Pittz got into the lane and hit for two the Reilly Berg scored on a basket under the hoop then added a pair or drives to make it 43-33.

But Belleville had a run of their own left and after a 9-0 spurt they led 52-35 with 6:12 left

The two teams traded baskets until the 58-46 finale.

Berg led the Dodgers with 13 points and Bryce Crubaugh-Lockard added 11.

Jackson Scholey put in 12 to lead Belleville and Adam Cann contributed 10.

“We started the game handling Belleville’s expected pressure pretty well but throughout the first half and much of the second half we didn't do as well,” said Dodgeville coach Matt McGraw about the Wildcats’ quickness.. “They forced us into turnovers which resulted in points in transition.”

McGraw was proud of the way the Dodgers did not back down.

“I liked how we kept fighting and cut into the lead late in the game,” McGraw said. “Handling pressure is certainly something we continue to work on and as we get better at it we will see more success overall.  We will keep battling to get better.”
