Glenn E. Kinch

Glenn E. Kinch passed away peacefully, Friday, December 8, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at Southwest Health Center in Platteville. He was born on April 2, 1942, to Dwight and Mildred (Raisbeck) Kinch.  Glenn grew up in Belmont, WI and graduated from Belmont High School in 1960. He married the love of his life Sara “Sally” (Gile) on July 21, 1967, whom he met at the Carr School when he was 13.  During their marriage for 56 years, they raised five children, were blessed with eight grandchildren, and expecting their first great grandchild.

While residing in Belmont, Glenn owned and operated milk trucks beginning in 1968 and grew their business to serving over 200 farms in southwest Wisconsin over the years.  In 1979, Glenn and Sally moved the family to a dairy farm in Mineral Point where they reside today. The family kept both operations running until 1988, when they sold the dairy cows, and they expanded their milk trucking business to include semis and other types of freight.  In 1998, Glenn and Sally built and operated the Pit Stop convenience store in Mineral Point until 2020.  Glenn enjoyed farming and spent over 50 years of his life raising cattle, most recently with his son Rob. Glenn was passionate about the genetics of his beef cattle, and he was a proud member of the Angus Association.  Even during his illness, a focal point of his conversations was caring for his cows.  

He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.  Glenn enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports and thrive in life.  He loved his family and was always supportive of them.  In his younger years, Glenn enjoyed hunting, trapping, and boating on Yellowstone Lake with family and friends.  In his later years, he devoted his time to organizing wrestling trips, traveling out west, antique tractor sales, and collecting John Deere tractors.  His interests led him to enjoy many lasting friendships through the years. Glenn had a strong love for his country and was a walking history book.  There wasn’t a topic that he didn’t know and could provide you with dates and facts. Glenn was very passionate about education and served on the Mineral Point School Board for many years.   He was an active member in the Mineral Point Wrestling Club for several years and served as Club President in 1992-1993.  Glenn also served as District Director of the Wisconsin Wrestling Federation and organized the Junior Greco Duals team in 1994-1995.  Glenn and Sally were inducted into the Mineral Point Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2004.  In 2020, Glenn and Sally received the American Legion Outstanding Citizens Award and were also recognized by the City of Mineral Point for their contributions to the city.

He is survived by his wife Sally; his five children: Laurie Chamberlain, Mineral Point; Glenn Robert “Rob” Kinch, Platteville; Carolyn (Rob) Bossert, Mineral Point; Jennifer (Steve) Fink, Dodgeville; and Kevin (Andrea) Kinch, Mineral Point; his eight grandchildren which he truly adored:  Cassandra (Hunter) Johnson, Grant and Brett Bossert; Braxton Fink; Kaitlyn, Lexi Jo, Macy, and Austyn Kinch.  Glenn is survived by his sister, Lois Savage; brothers and sisters-in-law: Sharon (Ron) Magee; Mary (Roger) Slaats; Dick (Diane) Gile; Susan Porter; Phyllis (Clem) Wiegman; Jim Glynn; Tom (Glorianne) Gile; Tim (Diane) Gile; Ken (Nora) Gile; and Phyllis Kinch.  Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law: Cletus and Sally Gile; a sister: Della Mae Kinch; a brother: Lyle Kinch; brother and sister-in-law: William Leonard Porter and Maureen Glynn.  

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the GORGEN MCGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville.  Pastor David Olson will officiate.  Burial will be in the Belmont Cemetery.  A visitation will be held on Friday, December 15, 2023 from 3:00 until 7:00 PM and on Saturday from 9:30 until 10:50 AM all at the GORGEN MCGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville.  A luncheon will follow the burial at the SPORTS PAGE in Belmont.  

  In lieu of flowers, donations will be made according to the family's wishes.
