Pointers open up lead in second half to take I-G

Iowa-Grant’s girls basketball team did not back down to a deep and talented Mineral Point team in the first half but the Panthers could not keep up the pace the entire game.

The Panthers trailed 32-21 at the half but the Pointers picked up the pace the second half and staked their claim on a 77-34 win in the SWAL match-up.  It was the opening game of conference for both teams.

“A great team win to open up conference play,” said Mineral Point coach Nick Jelle. “Iowa-Grant really pushed us in the first half.

“I thought our response in the second half was really good,” added Jelle. “We got a lot of great minutes from everyone, which really showed us great effort and energy.”

The Pointers used nine three pointers to pad their lead. Laci Lindsey’s 17 led the way while Maddie Kabat and Jayden Schultz added 12 each.  Twelve girls scored for the Pointers.

Adriana Jelle led the Panthers with 11 points.
