Toy drive in progress
by Mary Glindinning
Now through Dec. 15 at noon, the Dodgeville Chronicle, Mineral Point Democrat Tribune (along with the Mineral Point Chamber of Commerce) and Pecatonica Valley Leader are sponsoring a toy drive.
Toys will be distributed throughout the county by the Iowa County Holiday Project, which serves 100 families a year.
Watching the bins fill with all kinds of toys makes the season more festive for us. Giving, especially when you know it will make a child’s Christmas better, is a good feeling. And shopping for toys brings back memories of our own childhoods, and our children’s.
Readers were incredibly generous in making sure children had toys under the tree when the drive started last year. Santa shouldn’t skip any child because of a tight family budget.
Many very worthwhile groups are asking for donations this time of year, and none of us can contribute to all of them. Please don’t feel bad if you can’t help this year. We’ve all had lean years, and maybe next year will be better.
But if you can, please bring a new unwrapped to one of the paper offices.
This year the Democrat Tribune has partnered with the Mineral Point Chamber of Commerce at 145 High St. for the toy drive. Chamber office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday.
Please bring toys to The Dodgeville Chronicle office, 106 W. Merrimac St., from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
The Leader office is at 101 N. State St. in Argyle and is open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday to Friday.
Happy holidays and thank you.
