Pointers cruise past River Valley
Maddy Kabat might have to scrape some paint off her shoes after spending most of the night in the lane for the Pointers in a 66-17 win over River Valley Tuesday.
The sophomore inside player for the Pointers netted 14 points to lead her team offensively. Mineral Point coach Nick Jelle gave credit to Kabat’s teammates for getting her the basketball.
“We did a good job finding Maddy Kabat tonight and she was tough in the paint,” Jelle said.
Laci Lindsey was next in scoring for the Pointers and ruled the outside for 11 points.
“Laci Lindsey really spaces the floor for us and she did a great job finding good looks,” Jelle added.
Besides the offensive effort Jelle was happy with the defensive effort and overall play.
“Really good effort and energy tonight, especially on the defensive end which really fueled our transition offense,” he said.
Jelle saw some individual efforts he felt were a big key to the win.
“Ella Kroll is so tough defensively. She really caused a lot of problems tonight,” Jelle said. “Bre Goninen and Bree Swenson also provided a great spark off the bench.”
Jelle sees the team taking major steps toward a successful season.
“We continue to get better each week,”Jelle said. “I know this team has so much potential yet and will be a real force once we get firing on all cylinders.”
Blackhawks coach Darrell Parrish said lack of ball control proved costly.
“We had 25 first half turnovers and we were unable to break their half court defense,” said Parrish.
