Along The Ad Routes

I haven’t mentioned my favorite IOWA drivers in awhile. Last week when we were going from Dodgeville to Spring Green for breakfast Terry was driving. He set his cruise at 62 MPH. We were going in the slow lane up a hill just the other side of the 130 turnoff and a pickup truck went whizzing past us. I didn’t check the license, but one of the guys said, “He Mike, there goes one of your IOWA drivers!”

The weekend was filled with activities. Earlier (Thursday) I had the chance to get some chicken from the Dodgeville Kiwanis Chicken BBQ that saw a lot of carry-outs while I was there taking photos and gathering my meal to take home. Friday night I went to Fennimore for the Iowa-Grant football game for a while. Saturday began with the Iowa County Humane Society’s Pop-Up Garage/Estate Sale with a silent auction (I bid on some items) and food stand. Then I went to the Iowa County Antique Collector Club’s Power Show near Rewey and got a chance to talk with several people I probably only get to see once a year. Then I went to the Iowa County Cancer Colation Fundraiser in Highland. Again, I got to see a bunch of people I hadn’t seen in quite some time. It was a busy day!

At the Humane Society event, I had the chance to meet Shanna Gundlach, the new executive director. Her daughter Maggie (I knew from Jimmy’s Diner) was helping. I know another daughter, Macy Ahrens, from Cathryn’s Market next door and yet another daughter, Emma, worked at Cooks Room in Dodgeville until she had twins last week!

Saturday morning Bob, Terry, Dewey, Tom and myself were off to Blanchardville to the Viking Cafe. Walking in, there to the right was the usual table of people who used to be there with our former employee Paula Fredrickson, who passed away about 15 months ago. Her husband Rick was there in her place! We were waited on by Grace, whose grandfather is Dale Lawinger, a retired WDMP Radio employee. She is a senior this year at Pecatonica. Everybody had an omelette (on special) except for Dewey who had oatmeal. After eating, we made a trip to Ederer’s a block away with Terry and myself making purchases. We all sure do miss a hardware store in Dodgeville!

I’m jumping to Friday for my special day to mention. It’s “National Kiss and Make Up Day”. It reminds us to end the quarrels, arguments, and fights. Instead, come to an agreement with anyone you've had a disagreement with on National Kiss and Make up Day. But, probably better for me, it’s “National Banana Split Day”, as can be seen above. I still remember Mrs. Murphy, who ran the soda fountain counter at Corner Drug Store when it was located next to the Chronicle, running to Kwik Trip one day to get a banana for someone who wanted a Banana Split so it would be fresh!
