Mineral Point Council gives High Street celebration the go-ahead


The Mineral Point City Council gave permission to the Chamber of Commerce to have a family friendly grand re-opening of the newly constructed High Street.

The Chambers wants to showcase local businesses through a street fair.  Plans also call for a live music, food and drinks.

The Chamber asked that High Street, Cornish Heritage Park and Library Park be closed for the event which is being billed as a  “Grand Re-opening.”  

The Chamber also requested a Class B retailers license (picnic license) for the event.  

Date of the event is August 26. The street will be closed down from 10 am to 6 pm then later for the street dance.

The Council approved the 2024 agreement for emergency medical services with the Mineral Point Rescue Squad.  

The draft for the contract was given to the Council in July.  After consultation with the city attorney the following changes added to the agreement.

-MPRS to notify the city of the proposed cost for 2025 not later then September 1, 2024.

-follow the refund policy

-follow the snow removal provision

The budget impact will be $98,258.00 for 2024.

The Council approved pay application requests for the High Street project from Delta 3 Engineering, for engineering work, Delta 3 for the SDWL grant administration and Parisi Construction  for their work on the project.

In other business the Council:

-approved auctioning the park house for removal at 206 Copper Street

-approved actioning the lights that were at High Street and Jail Alley

-approved a subgrant letter from the Wisconsin Historical Society for the resurvey of the Mineral Point Historic District.  

-approved ordinance 2023-09 which rezones a parcel at 44 Shakerag Street from conservancy to R-2 two family residential.
