Knights lose to PBMH 4-3 to end playoff run


It was a tough way to end the 2023 regular season when the Dodgeville Knights came out on the short end of a 4-3 score with Pine Bluff/Mount Horeb. Saturday in the opening round of the Western Section playoffs.

PBMH, who hosted the game as the #4 seed to the Knights #5 ranking, scored a pair of runs in third, then added one in the sixth before plating the winner in the seventh.

The Knights got on the board in the fourth. Liam Stumpf walked, Jakob Kastenholz bunted him to second and an error put runners at the corners with Austin Larson on first. Dom McVay then singled in Stumpf. The Knights scored again in the seventh when Tanner Bockhop doubled in McVay who had reached on an error.

The final run came in the eighth and chased starter Tyler Vogel. Stumpf singled, stole second and third and came in on a sac fly by Larson.

The Knights had the tying run on first in the ninth when Tarron Bockhop singled but a long fly to right ended the game.

Justin Baehler went seven for the Knights, fanning three, walking four and giving up five hits.  Leyton Bowers worked the eighth and gave up one hit and two walks while hitting a batter.

The Knights had six hits, two by Tarron Bockhop and one each by Stumpf, Larson, McVay. and Bowers.
