Storm, Reds can’t stop Knights in road win

The Dodgeville Knights had to win twice Friday.

They had to beat host team Cazenovia and the approaching wind and rain.

They got past both.

The Knights won the game that was terminated in the sixth when the field and remaining players who had not gotten to their vehicles were drenched.  The Knights were holding onto an 8-6 lead when the game was called.

During their five innings the Knights slammed out 11 hits with five going for extra bases.

Winning pitcher Jakob Kastenholz clubbed a solo home run in the second to cap a three run inning. Josh Dressler walked and scored on a triple by Tarron Bockhop and Sean Reilly brought in Bockhop with a sac fly.

That made it 7-0 after a four run first. Tarron Bockhop started the game with a single, stole second and scored on Reilly’s rbi single.  Kastenholz singled and Tanner Bockhop walked to load the bases before Grant Hying singled to plate a pair of runs and Austin Montague singled for one more.

The final Knights run came in the third. Hying tripled and Dressler lined a shot to right to single in the eighth and final run.

Tarron Bockhop was 3x3 and needed a home run to complete the cycle. He was batting with a 1-1 count when the game was first halted by lightning then called by rain.

Kastenholz and Hying were both 2x3 with solo hits from Reilly, Jack Hellmann, Montague and Dressler.

Kastenholz threw three innings with five strikeouts, two walks and five hits. None of the six runs the Reds scored off him were earned.

Montague worked a pair of scoreless innings, striking out one, walking one and giving up one hit.

The Knights are 7-4 in Night League with one more game in the regular season. That will be here Thursday vs Reedsberg.
