Cardinals shut out by Timberwolves


It wasn't the start the Highland football team was looking for when they lost to River Ridge 26-0 in their non-conference season opener Friday.
The Timberwolves did their damage in the first three quarters. They tallied 14 first quarter points then put up six more in the second and third.
Matthew Nies completed 12 of 18 passes with his 33 yard strike to Braden Crubel netting the first score.
Brandon Davis threw two touchdowns, one in the first frame to Crubel that spanned 49 yards. He also pitched one to Crubel in the second quarter for a six yard score.
Nies completed the scoring with a two yard plunge in the third quarter
Nies also had a two point conversion run after the first score by the Wolves.
Davis finished two for three for 55 yards while Nies's tosses went for 142 yards.
Crubel led the receiving with 172 yards.
Cohen Healy took on the signal calling duties for the Cardinals and completed five of 17 attempts for 90 yards.
The running game never materialized with only Colton Frost getting plus yardage with 20 yards on seven tries.
Bryce Bollant grabbed one of Healy's throws for 60 yards. Tyson Imhoff caught two for 10 yards with Michael Esser catching one for 10
Defensively Darren Laufenberg, Blake Dax and Wes Krasinger each had a tackle for loss. Dax took part in 15 tackles while Laufenberg and Imhoff participated in 14. Frost was also in double digits with 11.
