Dodgeville-Mineral Point coach Denny McGraw had this to say about the meet and next Saturda's meet: "Saturday, October 22, was almost too picture perfect of a day. The very warm weather really seemed to affect a lot of the runners. It was an exciting day of running. The DPCC girls successful defended their sectional championship and will be heading to the state meet on October 29. The girls run at 12:40 at the Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids. The girls ran with determination and outran the competition to score 54 points.
"The boys came and ran their best race of the year. They gave a great effort and stepped up to finish so well. It was heartbreaking to see them miss state by one point, coming in third place. Layne Aurit made it as an individual, placing sixth overall. He will run at 2:35 on Saturday.
"We would like to thank the parents, fans, Dodgeville Fire Department, Athletic Director Joey Martin, and the administration from Dodgeville and Mineral Point. The support this season has been tremendous.
"The work ethic for this team has been amazing. They really consider themselves a family and they have great support for each other. We are very proud of the girls and boys teams for all their hard work and dedication.
"For the state meet in Wisconsin Rapids you have to purchase entry tickets on-line before the event. The tickets purchasing information is on the wiaa website. This site will also give other information about the meet including parking (shuttle service). We hope to have a large cheering section at the state meet."
