Dodgeville's baseball team stepped out of conference play Saturday and won the McFarland round robin in the process.
The Dodgers got strong pitching with the plan going in to develop depth throughout the mound staff. They won an extra inning game from McFarland, beating the Spartans on their new turf field 4-2 in eight innings then followed with an 8-0 shutout over Sauk Prairie.
Junior Jayden Olson came in from the outfield to turn in 6-2/3 strong innings with his stint ended by the pitch count rule. He left with the game tied 2-2. Grant Roh came in to strike out the final out of the frame with the winning run on base. That sent the game to extra innings.
Sean Reilly then took over in the eighth and got the save. He walked the first batter before coaxing a fly out to center then struck out the third and fourth hitters in the Spartans line up.
The Dodgers took a 2-0 lead in the fourth that stood up until the sixth.
Reilly and Dylan Wasley, the first two hitters of the frame, singled then Chase Forsyth coaxed a walk to load the bases. Dalen Rickard then singled in Reilly and courtesy runner Jamison Allen.
McFarland tied it with two in the sixth.
Olson, who struck out three, walked two and gave up four hits, worked until the pitch count dictated his removal.
The Dodgers got the lead when Dylan Wasley got his second hit of the game, stole second and got to third on a single by Dillon Garthwaite. Garthwaite stole second then Allen, who had entered the game to play outfield, singled to left to plate Wasley and Garthwaite.
Roh, who was the pitcher of record when the runs scored, got the win and Reilly, his cousin, got the save.
Reilly and Dalen Rickard were 2x3 and Wasley 2x4. Ayden Halverson doubled. Garthwaite and Allen both had a single to complete the nine hit Dodgers attack.
A six run fifth followed a two run fourth to give the Dodgers the 8-0 win over Sauk Prairie in the second game.
Reilly knocked in the first run with a double that followed Roh's single to open the fourth. Courtesy runner LaCarder Walker then scored on a hit by Olson to make it 2-0.
The six run fifth saw hits by Halverson, Roh, Reilly, Rickard, Olson and Cooper Fockler to keep the frame going Reilly had two rbis in the inning and Olson one.
Meanwhile Rickard was having his way with the Eagles with an impressive outing on the mound. He went the distance with only 99 pitches as he threw a one hitter with seven strikeouts and a walk.
Reilly and Olson were both 2x3, Roh 2x4 with one hit each from Halverson, Wasley, Rickard, Allen and Fockler.
With the wins the Dodgers raised their season record to 13-2.
