Dear Editor;
I am opposed to the construction of ATC transmission lines through our beloved Driftless landscape. I am also opposed to the kind of crude, gratuitous, vindictiveness I see displayed alongside Highway 18, just east of Dodgeville, on what I can only describe as the "scumbag" trailer. As a veteran of civic protests spanning more than a half century, I have experienced my own share of rage and frustration. I know what it's like to hate those whom one holds responsible for atrocities. And I've also learned that while hatred may or may not affect its target, it always degrades the hater, and often others who may only observe it's expression.
We should therefore search our hearts carefully before adding more darkness to the already immense sum of darkness. We should withhold the worst of ourselves from all but the most desperate encounters with the very worst of what others may do.
For those who may somehow truly believe that the ATC line and its proponents meet such extreme criteria, I will simply point out that I have yet to see an opponent defeated by childish name-calling.
