I thought one day I'd be a resident at Bloomfield

Dear Editor;
I grew up within 3 miles of Bloomfield Manor and never heard any negative remarks of their operation. My mother died there in 1984 and my husband there in 2000 and I figured I would someday be a resident there as well. Outside of the hospital, it was the only skilled home in Iowa County and many insurance policies require skilled care for the policies to be affected.
Bloomfield Manor at one time had many registered nurses that had been employed there that had worked there for at least 20 years. Dedication, yes. They also had a very good physical therapy department with a very long record of employment. In about 1985, several people formed an auxiliary that did a lot of fundraising, including the food stand for the spring Balloon Fest, which we figured had 1,500 people in attendance on year. We were also part of the planners of the new chapel, of which the money came from a local businessman, who gave us the funding.
Now we are seeing money spent to better some other improvements to the city, etc. and close the home of many of our senior citizens. Shouldn't this at least have gone on a referendum and get the opinion of the whole county?
