Cardinals set for Friday showdown with Belmont
"It is all about the players."
Tarrell has had some very good players over the years including those on the the 2021-2022 team who have been rolling along quite well. They handled River Valley 89-32 Tuesday after exploding for 61 first half points and the entire squad saw quality playing time.
Tarrell hopes what the girls have accomplished this season carries over Friday when the Cardinals are in a first place showdown with Belmont. Both teams are ranked in the WSN coaches poll.
Tuesday the Cardinals were able to go five in/five out most of the game. They were led by Katelyn Esser's 23 points with Rachel Miller adding 20 and Meg Tarrell 11. They drilled nine three pointers as the Blackhawks tried to defend them with little success.
River Valley's 6-3 post Charlotte Ferstl was not intimidated by the Cardinals as she poured in 20 points to lead her team.
"She had a good game and is a pretty good player," Tarrell said.
"For us it was nice to see everyone get to play," he said, "Now we have to get ready to battle Belmont at their place for first place Friday."
River Valley coach Darrell Parrish said there were two notable runs in the game,
"River Valley scored 16 straight points to cut Highland's lead in the first half but.
Highland returned their starters and scored 33 straight points," Parrish said.
