Strong second half sends Dodgers over Thunderbirds

After a quiet first half that saw the Dodgers cling to a 32-25 halftime lead the noise started at the beginning of the last 18 minutes and continued until Dodgeville thumped Baraboo 69-46 in the opening round of the Weigel Strong Holiday Tournament.
Also quiet the first half was the Dodgeville scoring but Dillon Garthwaite took care of that. After an eight point first half Garthwaite struck for 14 the second period and didn't waste time doing it. He scored the first two baskets of the second half with one a three pointer then a minute later added four more. He and Ayden Halverson followed by drilling back to back threes and got the lead up to almost 20 at 46-27.
Garthwaite then added a pair of drives for four more points and finished it with a three point play with 3:32 left in the game for a 65-41 lead.
Chandler Williams scored on a rebound and Reilly Berg added a pair of free throws for the 69 point finale.
The Dodgers had a two pronged attack with one of the dimensions 7-0 Chandler Batchelor. When Batchelor was in the game he contributed 12 points and swatted away a handful of shots attempted by the Thunderbirds.
When Batchelor was on the bench the Dodgers opened their three point game. Garthwaite, Matthew Pittz and Halverson all had two.
Gabe McReynolds, a 6-6 senior, led Baraboo with 19 points.
Dodgeville coach Matthew McGraw said the strong second half was the key.
"We played a much better second half and that was the difference for us tonight," McGraw said. "We came out a little flat for the first time this season which we addressed at half time and the guys responded very well."
