Pointers advance 12, win own D3 Regional

To say that the Mineral Point Wrestling Team dominated their Division 3 wrestling Regional Saturday that was held at Mineral Point would be an understatement.
The Pointers came away with nine champions, having the first seven, and three runners-up. That means they will be represented by an even dozen wrestlers at Saturday's Sectional to be held at Westby.
From there the top three in each weight class will advance to the State Individual Championships February 24-26 at the Kohl Center in Madison.
By winning the Regional, that also meant the Pointers. would be heading to Team Sectionals that were held Tuesday night at New Lisbon.
With the Pointers claiming a Regional title and having numerous medalists, head coach Curtis Fiedler had nothing but positive takeaways from Mineral Point's performance Saturday.
"It was a great tournament. Can't really come down on kids after sending 12 through. Regardless of competition, our kids came out as if they were wrestling the best in the state, and it showed," Fiedler stated.
"The focus has been to take it one match at a time. That's the game plan the rest of the way,"Fiedler said. "We can't look ahead, just have to focus on the guy in front of you."
