Pointer girls are 19-0 after topping Fennimore

By Levi Zimmerman
On Monday, the top-ranked girls basketball team in division four, Mineral Point, won its 19th consecutive game with a 64-25 victory over Fennimore in Southwest Wisconsin Activities League play.
The score wasn't always lopsided, however.
In the beginning, the host Golden Eagles were figuring out the Pointers' full-court press, while the Pointers struggled to get their shots to fall.
Fennimore's Braycee Nelson led the way with eight points, including a three-point field goal.
Izzy Bender also knocked down a three-pointer.
Rose French added four points, with a two-point basket and a couple of free throws.
Mineral Point senior point guard Mallory Lindsey, who is currently one of the top three-point shooters in the state, made a three and a two in the first half.
As of Monday, Lindsey ranks fourth in division four, making 63 out of 154 attempts for a 41 percent mark from behind the arc.
Senior Ella Chambers also had five early points, with a three and a two.
Senior Blair Watters added four.
Mineral Point led Fennimore, 21-17, at halftime.
The second half of action was a stark difference from the first.
The Pointers found their rhythm, knocking down quality looks on offense, while not allowing much on defense.
Mineral Point executed with precision, scoring 43 second-half points, while the Golden Eagles managed to score just eight.
Junior forward Kennedy Wenger made a living in the paint, scoring 12 points, all two-point scores, in the second.
She would be the leading scorer of the game with 15 points.
Fellow junior forward, Katelyn Cox, also went for 12 points.
Cox had four, two-point baskets and went four-for-six from the free throw line.
Lindsey continued lighting it up from deep, hitting two more three-pointers along with a two-point score to end with a 13-point performance.
Blair Watters also reached double figures with 10 points.
Chambers made a three-pointer in the second half to end with eight points.
With the win, the Pointers moved to 19-0, overall, and 9-0 in the SWAL.
Mineral Point's next game will be at home against Boscobel Thursday, Feb. 3 at 7:30 p.m.
The Bulldogs, who are third in the SWAL, will enter with an overall record of 15-4 and a conference record of 6-3.
The teams last met December 17, and Mineral Point won, 80-38.
