Planned Closure of Bloomfield Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center

Dear Editor;
Why? Why did our County Board at their January meeting suddenly decide, while in executive session, that this wonderful facility that has been a hame to so many of us for 60 years should be closed? Why was this decision made with NO public input? Why was this decision made without the opportunity for the voters of Iowa County to vote on a referendum as they did a number of years back? For those who might remember that referendum vote, the proposal to close this wonderful, modern facility with its caring staff was defeated by an approximately 8 to 1 margin.
Should the Iowa County Board have their way and close Bloomfield, where will all the residents go? Some residents may find a new home fairly easily. Many will not! Are there even enough beds of any kind within 30 miles of Bloomfield to take everyone? A quick review shows that special needs residents may not find beds anywhere with staff trained to satisfy their needs.
I'm a life-long resident of Iowa County and currently reside at Bloomfield. I do not want to lose my home here. Give us the facts! Show us why it is important or valuable to close Bloomfield, especially on such short notice without any public input. Too often when decisions are made like this, something fishy is going on in the background.
