Ignatius drops 36 in Barneveld's win over Argyle

By Levi Zimmerman
The Barneveld boys basketball team did everything coach Tyler Sullivan has been looking for Thursday night with a 77-38 victory over Argyle.
The Golden Eagles' defense was solid, especially in the first half, allowing just 12 points.
On the offensive end, senior Chase Ignatius led with 14 points in the first, including a couple of three-point field goals.
Sophomore guard Kasey Helgeson added nine points, as Barneveld had a commanding, 34-12 lead at the break.
Ignatius picked up right where he left off, and then some, going for 22 points in the second half to post a 36-point performance, a career-high.
The Golden Eagles shot the ball better than they have previously, making 10, three-pointers.
Ignatius made five, Helgeson had two, senior Aiden Fishnick had two and junior Ryan Gust made one.
Barneveld had nine players score Thursday, which was the most they've had in any previous game.
They outscored the Orioles, 43-26, in the second half.
Leading Argyle in scoring was Max Godfrey, who had 13 points, including two, three-pointers, and Ike Waage, who had 12, with a three.
Sullivan said the Golden Eagles were improved in multiple facets of the game.
"We had great team effort by our guys tonight," said Sullivan. "Our defensive pressure really got to them, and we were able to get out and run a little bit more tonight which was always fun to see. What I loved most about our win is that everyone contributed one way or another, and we really dug in defensively and that translated to great offense for us."
Sullivan stated, "Chase had a big night for us scoring 36, as he is a really tough match up for them man to man. We crashed the boards hard offensively, too, and kept some possessions alive which resulted in second chance points, which was big for us. I also thought we did a better job at shot selection tonight, and our shooters got great looks when they were open. Ryan, Kasey, Chase and Aiden all knocked down the looks we want them to take."
Although Barneveld has an overall record of 5-12, the five wins are against Six Rivers East opponents.
The Golden Eagles moved to 5-2 in the East and second place, behind Monticello.
Barneveld will travel to play the Ponies Tuesday, Feb. 15.
"Our other guys took advantage of scoring off the bounce or in the paint. Hopefully, we keep building off another great win," Sullivan said.
