Dodgers tripped up by Prairie du Chien in SWC wrestling

Dodgeville's wrestling team faced SWC leading Prairie du Chien for Senior Night and Parents Night with the Blackhawks claiming a convincing 63-18 win.
The highlight of the night was Brighton's Judd's pin at 285. Brighton is the lone senior on the Dodgeville team and has been a member of the wrestling family since he was in the youth program. He stuck Dylan Wright at 1:19 after scoring a takedown and a near fall.
"Brighton was impressive and looked good getting his pin," said coach Ryan Lord. "I was happy we could get him a match in his final home meet and happier with how it turned out for him."
The Dodgers also got a physical win from Reid Spurley at 120.
"Reid was dominating again," Lord said. "He does such a good job with positioning. He is also one of the kids who coaches up the kids in the wrestling room and is always ready to help someone get better."
Thomas Lundell lost a close match to Drew Hird at 138, 3-2.
"Thomas had a solid match against a very good kid," Lord said. "He will learn from this and get better."
Mason Winch had a beast at 160 in Prairie's Maddox Cejka but Lord was impressed with his approach.
"He came out positive and went hard after him," Lord said. "He didn't back down. Maddox is a very good wrestler Mason will have to pick it up at times if he sees him again."
Jack Heimerl looked good in the early going of his 170 match Lord said.
"He came out aggressive and can be very explosive," Lord said. "It is just a matter of time with for Jack. He is very strong but is lacking in awareness because this is his first year. He just needs more mat time before the wins start coming."
It is the same for first year junior wrestler Sean Reilly who moved to 195. He had an 8-2 lead with several takedowns before he got caught and pinned with 49 seconds left in the third period.
"He is so precise and he thinks about what he needs to do," Lord said. "When all that comes from instinct he will be one of the better ones. He is so impressive and explosive. He just needs more time on the mat."
Caden Zumbrunnen at 126 and Colin Judd at 132 met up with the Koenig brothers who have quite a wrestling resume.
"Those were two very tough draws but they did not back down," Lord said. "I told them just go out there and do what you can. They both gave it their all and I am happy they got to wrestle."
In exhibition matches Lucas Crook pinned his opponent at 120 and John Qually was pinned at 160.
"Lucas looked really good," Lord said. "He wrestled with confidence and had a nice approach."
"This was John's first action of the year after being out with an injury sustained in football," said Lord. "I am glad he got a chance and now he needs time on the mat."
