Bloomfield Healthcare Closure - Why?

Dear Editor;
I want to raise some serious questions about the recent decision, apparently made under cover of executive sessions by the county board, to close Bloomfield Healthcare and Rehabilitation with little prior notice or opportunity for public input. I was born and raised in Mineral Point. My mother and I have both resided at Bloomfield for extended periods of time. I know very well the professional and caring staff who work tirelessly to see to the needs of its residents. Some of my friends and neighbors also have or do reside there.
So what is behind the move? Is there something shady going on behind the scenes that members of the county board do not want the citizens of Iowa County to know about? I have received reports that at the January 18, 2022 meeting the board approved some improvements in staffing for the facility. However, they then went into executive session and returned with a decision to close Bloomfield with little or no explanation as to why this decision was made. This decision was announced to the staff with no warning.
When I approached Larry Bierke about this decision, he said that displaced residents will have no problem finding new lodging. For some, that may be true. For others, particularly those with behavioral issues, that is not accurate as there do not seem to be other facilities nearby suited to handle these residents. Even for those easier to relocate, are there beds available within a reasonable travel distance for families and friends to visit them? Bloomfield Manor is not just an assisted living facility. It provides specialized, skilled care including rehabilitation, and Activities of Daily Living (ADL) care for those who need it. The Bloomfield staff has a long history of providing respect and excellent care for the residents. They make a point of helping us feel like respected and valued members of society.
Let's make sure all of the facts are on the table for all to see before this decision is finalized to the long-term harm of our Iowa County residents.
