Lord no-hits Heights, Reilly has grand slam
Lord did not give up an earned run as both Heights runs scored on errors. She struck out eight and walked four. She threw 85 pitches in the five inning game halted by the 10 run rule.
Reilly got her slam in the fifth inning which put the run rule into effect. She was 3x4 for the day.
Maggie White was also 3x4 with a two run home run in the fifth and a single in the second who sent in Lucy Heimerl who had tripled. White then scored on a two run blast by Grace Graber who was also 3x4.
The Dodgers pounded out 19 hits. Adding to the total were Heimerl, Forsyth, Sara Graber and Ryleigh Grunenwald who had two hits each.
Ava Lord and Vanessa James finished out the hits with one each.
Two of Sara Graber's hits were doubles. Grace Graber and Grunenwald also had doubles.
Dodger coach Gene Van Dyck said abouth the game, "Heights is a very young team and was seriously overmatched. Their pitcher did throw pretty well and their catcher and shortstop played pretty well but other than that they struggled particularly in the outfield. Overall we played fairly well."
"We made a couple of position changes and it appeared that defensively we may play better but we'll see as we go along. Annika threw OK but control problems continue to plague her. Movement of her pitches was quite good but location often wasn't. We hit the ball hard quite a few times including 3 home runs. One each by Grace Graber, Maggie White and a grand slam by McKenna Reilly. And, some of the line shots that we hit were hit harder than the home runs. But, too many pop ups and strikeouts. Our base running was better and hopefully that will continue."
"What we really need is a couple of good practices but between weather and games, but that's going to be hard to come by."
