It doesn't get much better than that.
Dodgeville's baseball team opened its season with a non-conference game at Belmont and came. away with an 11-0 win and a perfect game.
Seniors Dillon Garthwaite and Ayden Halverson combined to toss the gem. Garthwaite went four innings, striking out eight while Halverson finished and fanned two.
There were five fielding plays, all made without a problem. Second baseman Chase Forsyth fielded two grounders while Halverson at shortstop and Trenton Reddell both fielded grounders and catcher Sean Reilly picked up a ball in front of the plate and gunned the runner.
There was not a ball hit to the Dodger outfield all day. It was a classic case of three up and three down all game.
The Dodgers got started with a walk to Halverson, an errant pick-off attempt, a double by Chase Forsyth and an rbi single by Reilly. A bases loaded walk to Garthwaite made it 2-0 after the first.
Two more runs crossed in the fourth. Forsyth and Reilly both knocked in a run to make it 4-0.
A seven run fifth finished it for the Dodgers. Forsyth plated two runs with a single, Dylan Wasley and Jamison Allen were hit by a pitch to force in runs, Garthwaite sent another one home when he walked and Halverson singled in another tally.
Reilly was 3x3, Forsyth 3x4 and Halverson 2x3 to lead the Dodgers 12 hit offense. Wasley, Garthwaite, Grant Roh and Cooper Fockler all had one hit.
"This was a great way to start the season after being inside for so long. This was our first time on a baseball field this year," said coach Pat Reilly.
"The team was focused and if there was a downside it was we only played five innings and did not get everyone in the game," Reilly added. "They have all worked hard and we need to give others a chance too."
