Cardinals lose to Lady Wolves in three sets

"We just could not get anything going," Highland volleyball coach Maria Wineski said after losing to River Ridge 3-0 Tuesday in the Six Rivers West opener for both teams.
Over the weekend both teams finished second in the Six Rivers Invite featuring both sides of the conference. Potosi and Monticello took the top spots at each event and both are ranked this week by the volleyball coaches.
But Tuesday belonged to the Timberwolves who turned back the Cardinals 25-17, 25-12 and 25-19. In all three sets the Cards got down early and had to try and battle back, falling short each time.
"We played so well Saturday but tonight we came out sluggish and seemed slow," Wineski said. "Things did not go well for us tonight."
The coach added the Cardinals had too many hitting errors and did not do well at serve receive. Add that the hitting was off all night and it is a tough way to open the conference.
Rachel Miller had 11 kills, an ace, five assists and eight digs.
Meg Tarrell had 12 assists, an ace, two kills and a block.
Ella Cody, the libero, added 11 digs. Katelyn Mueller had two kills and two blocks. Katelyn Esser had three kills while Jenna James had two kills and a block.
The Cardinals will entertain Benton tonight in a Six Rivers West match-up.
