Pointers eliminate Parkview

The Mineral Point community was saddened Monday when one of their community leaders, Larry Steffes, died after a short illness.
With a heavy heart his daughter, Emma, stayed with her Pointer volleyball teammates and they fed off her strength to eliminate Parkview 3-0 and advance to play at New Glarus tonight.
Scores were 25-19, 25-15, 25-12.
"Our team was lead by the strength of Emma Steffes tonight," said Pointer coach Kari Kabat. "She stepped in and made some digs tonight and had a couple key aces for us, including the last point of the match."
Emma no doubt played to honor her father, a long time school board member and a champion for children having a good life.
Kabat was impressed with how the Pointers addressed the match.
"Overall, we played well tonight," she said. "We had some moments where we were out of sync a bit, but came through and put the ball away when we needed it."
She said the Pointers had several who had a very strong showing.
"Blair Watters had some dominant plays at the net tonight and was untouchable," Kabat said. "Kennedy Kabat added some key moment plays as well and just played smart. Mallory Lindsey hustled and played great defense and put the ball where our hitters needed it. It was an all around solid performance tonight."
Kabat is hoping to see more of the same tonight
"We need to use this to build momentum for Thursday night," she said. "We are just looking forward to another opportunity to play and taking it one game at a time here in the postseason."
New Glarus eliminated Iowa-Grant in their Regional opener.
