We certainly have been making up for our lost rain amounts over the summer with the fall moisture that has set in. We aren't getting deluges of rain, but it sure has been coming down regularly. That sure makes thing stay green and the fall colors not coming out as fast as normal. Rains are supposed to be in the mix most of this week, but ending by the weekend.

Speaking of the weekend, it's the weekend of the Annual Fall Art Tour throughout Southwestern Wisconsin. The tour begins in either Baraboo or Mineral Point and passes through Dodgeville and Spring Green. Stops also include the Highland, Ridgeway and Lone Rock areas plus a few more along the way. The tour can actually start any place along the route. Many people go on it for the fall colors - that might not be at the point people really would like right now. It's only a guess as to when the colors will be at their peak. The weather is supposed to be above normal for awhile, so maybe towards the end of October they will be in full swing. In looking ahead, the first snowfall (to some it's an ugly 4 letter word) is supposed to be around mid November. There are a lot of years it happens around Halloween!

I made it to two Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremonies last week - one at Highland and the other at Dodgeville. It was homecoming week for both schools. Brother Pat and Levi Zimmerman and I were at Highland while Pat and I were at Dodgeville. At Highland I had a chance to see people I hadn't seen for quite some time as I'm just not getting to as many events as I used to. That was great! The same was true at Dodgeville (Dodger Bowl after the game Friday night), but many people I have more contact with over the year and especially summer!

I can't tell you how many people comment to me that "I never seem to change" - I guess they mean in appearance even though I know I have aged! I was happy to see some "old" faces at the Dodgeville Hall of Fame ceremony. The 1999 volleyball team members that were there along with Curt Weier, Brian Bradley and Ross Vivian (for his son Steve) all gave great speeches. Also, Heidi Meudt, who is in New Zealand, gave a recorded speech and attended via Zoom and Steve Vivian gave a recorded message too. It was a very nice night!

Oh, and for your information today is "National Dessert Day" - a day very close to my heart. I have always been a dessert person. My mother (Ruby) was a great baker. She once made a chocolate torte dessert that filled up a guest who claimed he had never been filled up when he ate - ever! He actually left some of it at the table! Also, Kathryn McGraw made me the best pies and saffron buns. Her apple pies were the best! See a great dessert pictured above - it's the Wisconsin State Fair's renowned "Cream Puff"!

By the time this paper comes out, girls volleyball playoffs would've begun. That is the first fall sport to begin with soccer, cross country and football not far behind. That means one season is winding down and the next - winter sports - will be beginning soon!
