Along The Ad Routes

I received several comments on the photo of Dewey, Bob, Terry and I at the Brewers game that was in last week's column. Several of them asked where I was when the photo was taken while others asked who the guy on right was! I guess I'm changing!

Saturday morning Bob, Terry, Dewey and Dave (Stone) went to our 45th breakfast spot when we went to "Sam's Airport Restaurant" at the Tri-County Airport outside of Lone Rock. We had actually been to the building before when it was called Piccadilly Lilly Airport Diner. The last time was just before COVID-19 and then it became for sale. It opened again in March of this year by Mike Ramos who lives near Dodgeville. I was told he is part of a fencing business out of Madison. On the menu it says, "This little hole in the wall is named after my Dad. He loved to fly and he loved going to Dive Diners like this." Mike also flies and owns a couple of pretty special airplanes, one that was restored by Johnson Brothers Flying Service out of Spring Green. The breakfast was very good and four of us even had a "carmel sticky roll" that was made fresh just before we got there. Our waitress, Isabelle, was only 15 years old and she did a great job! Her sister is the manager and cook too!

Last Sunday (September 26) was our final week of Fall Baseball. It was a great season that began sometime in April! I want to thank all the helpers, parents, siblings and friends of the players who made it very easy to have a successful season. We played over 100 games at Centennial Park and the High School Field at the middle school. Very seldom did we have a request for something we didn't have and complaints were few and far between! With the help of the people I mentioned, hopefully I will be able to help navigate another season next year!

I also want to thank the people at Piggly Wiggly in Dodgeville who worked with me on coming up with the best deals I could and having product for me even when it was hard to find!

Congratulations to the Dodgeville-Mineral Point cross country teams (again). Both the boys and girls varsity teams finished in the top spot at the Platteville invitational last Saturday. The junior varsity girls took second, all bringing back trophies. The JV boys were 7th.

October 1 was International Coffee Day and Heaven knows I've had a few over the years. The odd thing is that I pretty much only drink coffee when I'm eating breakfast, lunch or dinner! Now and then I do have a flavored coffee, but not very often. The photo above could be me getting ready to finish that cup of "Joe" because i drink it black. I figure if you're going to drink coffee, you should drink it straight - just like your booze!

The Dodgeville Area Chamber of Commerce is getting ready for its annual "Trunk or Treat" outside in the downtown Dodgeville area on Saturday, October 23. It's a fun event where kids dress up, play games and get treats! More will be coming.
