Along The Ad Routes

Ok - so I messed up AGAIN! I wrote the Dodgeviile-Mineral Point Girls Cross Country Championship story and started it with "One more point!" I should've said "One less point!" It's the LOWER score that wins in cross country. I knew that and said they won 88-89, but my lead-in was pointed at almost every other sport. Cross country and golf may be the only sports that the winner is decided by the lowest score. There may be other sports out there, but those are the only two I know.!

We were without Terry for Saurday morning breakfast this week as he and his wife Joyce were in Branson on vacation. So we decided to ask Dennis Kopps to go with us. When we arrived the place was packed. We didn't want to sit at the bar area where there were 5-6 spots as we wanted to talk easier so we went to the back area where we found a table for us. Our waitress Karla was all alone, but she brought us drinks right away. She took our order quickly, but we had to wait for our food for awhile. The place thinned out by the time we were ready to leave - around 9:30. The table next to us had two couples at it. We struck up some conversation and found out the woman from Mount Horeb was celebrating her 70th birthday. They were at Hi Point in Ridgeway the night before. The other couple was from Poynette. We told them we were from Dodgeville and the Poynette couple said they were related to someone we may know - Jim McCauley (former mayor). The world does seem to get smaller all the time!

My great-nephew Quentin Keene (Waunakee) and his football team is one game away from a Division 2 state football berth. They won another thriller 28-27 over Memominee Friday night. They are a #1 seed and they play #4 Hartford at Slinger Friday night for the right to go to state!

In our area, Darlington beat Cuba City and now plays (to go to state) against the always tough St. Mary's Springs team this coming Friday night.

Small Business Saturday kicks off the holiday shopping season traditionally. It falls on Saturday, November 27 this year. There will be events going on in Dodgeville and a lot of the the places close by that day. The Dodgeville Area Chamber of Commerce has organized a FREE movie at the Dodge Theatre "Mr. Magoriam's Wonder Emporium" that day at 11:00 a.m. in English - a Spanish version will be shown at 9:00 a.m. too! We ask a non-perishable food item to be donated for entry though! Santa will be at the theatre for a stop and then be at Cobblestone Coffee House (just down the street) from 1-3 for phtotos with the kids!
