Another milestone is soon to be completed this week.
After the FDA gave the greenlight for COVID-19 boosters last week, I began the sign up process.
Tonight, I will have completed my Moderna booster for the COVID-19 Vaccine.
It was the choice that I made that I felt was best for me for a few reasons:
1) My family. I have loved ones whom are over the age of 65, and are more vulnerable to contract the COVID-19 virus. I also have nephews that do not (yet) qualify to get the vaccine. While that is soon to change, I felt it best to not gamble when it comes to my health and the health of my loved ones. If this gives me the chance to help not only myself, as well as others stay safe, I'm going for it.
2) My job. My job requires me to attend public meetings, as well as meet with people for story ideas. Regardless of their beliefs behind the vaccine, I feel it is in my best interest to protect myself as well as the individuals I am in contact with.
3) My community: see reasons 1 and 2
4) Keeping an optimal immune response. Although I received the COVID-19 vaccine six months ago, I've learned that my protection against the virus wanes after six months. The longer I hold out, the greater my risk of contracting the virus, along with being hospitalized. Although I know I could still get the virus, my risks of getting severely hospitalized or dying is greatly diminished by receiving the booster. It's a risk I'm not willing to take, especially since the Delta variant has a higher spreadibility rate. In otherwords, the optimal immune response for the vaccine booster is two fold.
