Eagles bid farewell to Cassville to advance

Barneveld's volleyball team had to cross the Six Rivers divide Thursday to face a determined Cassville squad in the semi -finals of the WIAA Division 4 Regionals.
The Comets advanced to the match when Argyle was forced to forfeit because of COVID issue. The Golden Eagles moved to the semis with a win over Benton, another team from the other side of the Six Rivers.
It took four sets to take down the Comets and advance to play the champions of the Six Rivers cross in league champion Highland.
The Eagles eased to a 25-13 decision in the first set then came out on the wrong end of a 25-23 decision in the second set. The Eagles then regrouped and earned the right to advance, taking the final two 25-10 an 25-18.
"We were pretty flat the second set and decided to coast," said Eagles coach Martina Reuter. "The girls found out coasting does not work."
Reuter went with a serving switch and changed blockers to forge a comeback in the third set and claim the match in the fourth round.
"It is tournament time and we have to learn to deal with the pressure," Reuter added. "Our kills were strong but we had too many serving errors. We will have to do better against Highland."

Highland had a very consistent team with great blocking and aggressive swings from the outside. We wish them luck this week!
We will be losing Senior Outside Hitter Zoe Schmitz. She has been on varsity since freshman year and was a great leader for the program. We will miss her! She currently leads are team on the season in digs and Kills.
We will have the other 7 starters back in the line up which is promising for a successful season next fall!
