Hearing positive news

By Kasi Greenwood-kgreenwood@thedodgevillechronicle.com

Hearing positive news is good for the spirit. I advocate today to provide upbeat news that might brighten your day or prompt you to say, "Good!" I encourage you to do likewise.
Readers Digest does a great job inspiring readers. I'm including snippets of information from its stories. See readersdigest.ca/culture/good-news-stories-world/ or use Google to search for the full-length articles on sources' websites.
"Birds colliding with turbine blades is one of the main negative effects of onshore wind farms. But a nine-year study at Norway's Smola wind farm has found that bird strikes can be cut by up to 70% simply by painting one blade of a wind turbine black," Readers Digest said. (Source: BBC News)
"Scientists have created an enzyme that can break down used plastic bottles for recycling in a matter of hours. Engineered from bacteria found in leaf compost, the enzyme reduces PET bottles (made from polyethylene terephthalate, a form of polyester) to their chemical building blocks, which are then used to make high-quality new bottles," Readers Digest said. Andalucia, Spain, had received criticism for its negative treatment of donkeys. Donkeys regularly pull carts bearing tourists. One village established regulations such as mandatory rest periods, weight limits, and improved living conditions for donkeys. (Source: english.elpais.com)
Lucy Hughes, a young British design graduate, invented a biodegradable film that could possibly replace packaging plastic. The film is made from fish wastes. (Source: Dezeen/The Guardian)
Parks are beginning to reopen. A historical theme park in France uses crows to pick up small pieces of trash or cigarette butts left behind by tourists. When the trained birds deposit trash into a receptable, they receive a small nugget of food through a small prefilled box. (Source: phys.org/news)
When canine owners use high-pitched tones to speak excitedly to their dogs, the "dog-speak" strengthens bonds between a pet and its owner. This interaction helps dogs interact socially and improves their attention. (Source: york.ac.uk)
Hearing or reading positive news helps us. Share an upbeat anecdote from your own life with someone else, or look for one online to share. Conversation is fun! Actively find a way to boost your spirits and that of others.
