Dodgers survive late Pec challenge

Dodgeville made the most of 11 hits in an 11-7 win over host Pecatonica in a non-conference baseball match-up Tuesday.
Austin Montague and Jayden Olson both were 2x3 for the Dodgers and Dalen Rickard was 2x4. Anthony Vivian homered and Sean Reilly doubled. Both of Olson's hits went for doubles and Rickard had three rbis. Olson, Drew Latterell and Dillon Garthwaite had an rbi each.
Casey Weier worked five innings of three hit ball for the Dodgers and fanned four. Rickard took over to pitch the last two and gave up five hits.
The Vikings got to Weier for two runs in the second on a two run single by Coy Ruegsegger. Rickard gave up one run in the sixth and four in the seventh with a two run single by Johnson's hit.
Bryce Johnsrud led Pecatonica with. 2x3 night. Dakota Doescher, Kegun Brunker, starting pitcher Hunter Enloe, Johnson and Trevor McKeon all had one hit.
"It was a good night for the first game in two years for our high school team," said Dodgeville coach Pat Reilly. "We hit well and did a good job defending. Our pitchers threw strikes."
"Dodgeville played well defensively especially in the infield," said Pec coach Jim Strommen. "Six of their 11 runs came with two outs."
"We struggled throwing strikes and gave Dodgeville too many free bases," Strommen added.

Pecatonica travels to Belmont Friday while Dodgeville heads to River Valley Thursday. They also play East Dubuque at 9 am and Madison Edgewood at 1:30 in their tournament Saturday.
