Transgender athletes ruling

Dear Editor;
Is the WIAA ruling on transgenders just for athletes? Or a good guideline for all students?
One of the items the Mineral Point School board discussed at the March 8, 2021 board meeting was: nondiscrimination guidelines related to students who are transgender and nonconforming to gender role stereotypes.
Some wanted to adopt the WIAA guidelines while others didn't. It was brought up that the WIAA had thoroughly looked into the legal concerns and came up with a ruling that they now use for when and how a transgender is allowed to participate in a given sport. One question that may be before the board is: should they adopt the WIAA policy or draft something else.
As past, present, future parents, as well as the community it's our responsibility to prepare our children to become productive, healthy and discerning adults, who are confident and take responsibly for their actions now and in the future. Six men and one woman will be making a decision that will affect thousands of children and families for the years to come in the Mineral Point School District.
If you want to learn more or offer your input, please contact the school board members: Andy Busch, Nate Chambers, Aaron Dunn, Joni Heisner, Everett Lindsey, Larry Steffes and Gary Sullivan. Or attend the next board meeting on April 12, 2021.
Sincerely, Marilee Eisele
