Dear Editor;
Congress may soon vote on the For the People Act, an effort to start rebuilding our democracy and restore trust in our governmental institutions.
This is an important bill that would make it easier to register to vote, improve election security, and require all states to follow a number of common best practices for voting and elections that help more people participate in their constitutional right to vote.
The bill would also return the right to vote to people who have completed their prison sentences for a prior felony conviction and ban partisan gerrymandering.
The bill would require a voter-verified paper ballot to be used as a protection against hacking and other fraud and make critical investments in election security.
The bill tightens campaign finance regulations and closes loopholes that have allowed billions in "dark money" and super PAC money to be spent on campaign ads in recent years without clearly disclosing the source.
It also institutes ethics requirements for officials in the executive branch, including for the President and Vice President of the United States, and also for members of Congress.
This bill would help to strengthen and protect our democracy. Please urge your member of Congress to support it.
