Congratulations to River Valley/Barneveld gymnast Lorisa Shatrawka. She won the beam and took second on bars in Division 2 at the WIAA State Gymnasics Championships in La Crosse Saturday. Dodgeville-Mineral Point/Iowa-Grant freshman Brooklyn Murphy did well in those same events, finishing 14th and 10th in her first trip to state!

Another local/area connection to the girls basketball tournament at state is that former Highland athlete Bobby Rose was on the sidelines during the Division 3 championship as an assistant coach for the D3 state championship Lake Mills team!

It's getting down to the final days of the Dodgeville Area Chamber of Commerce selling their raffle tickets (225 total) for a Grand Prize of $10,000, with other prizes too, including more cash. This is in lieu of not being able to hold fundraising events in 2020. It's called "Raffle for a Cause" - investing in 2021 Chamber Events!

By the way, the front door of the Chronicle has been open since early December. I've had several people ask! We do require facial coverings to enter however, but we are happy to see old and new friends even if we can't always tell who you are!

Speaking of the Chamber of Commerce, plans have begun for DodgeFest, scheduled for August 28, and the "Pop Up Town Square in July plus the Slowpitch Softball Tournament for early August. We are all hoping all of the summer events can be held this year - 2021 has to be better!

Bob, Terry and I met at Cafe by Country Kitchen again this past Saturday as Terry and I had our second round of COVID shots at 8:35 and 8:50 a.m. I met Terry and his wife Joyce going in to get theirs as I was leaving. You have to wait 15 minutes after getting your shot to see if there is any reaction.

While in the waiting room I got a chance to talk with several people, one being Theresa James I was curious about her kids and how they were doing. Her son, Chad, is a former pitcher for the Dodgeville Home Talent Baseball Team. He's in Verona now. Her daughter, Kelly, is in Sun Prairie where her freshmen daughter excels in softball - a chip off her mother's block!

My shot giver at Upland Hills Health Saturday was my former chemistry lab partner in high school - retired nurse Kathy Honerbaum. She was a Crubaugh then, but I won't hold that against her! She did do "her time" at the "Not So" Quality Bakery at one time! I told her I wouldn't reveal how the shot went from her or tell any embarrassing stories about our time in Chemistry class! But I didn't even know she had stuck the needle in!

Today is "National Hug A GI Day." I don't know that many women who were GIs so I may not observe that special day to its fullest!
